Arrival in Paris

After a 9-hour flight to Paris, a quick stop at the Eiffel Tower, and two train rides with a Bayonne layover, I finally reached Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. After a vegetarian dinner with fellow pilgrims, I settled into the hostel before starting the Camino the next day.

Departing Home

After a final weekend with family in Chicago, visiting old schools and the city, I said goodbye to Tovin at O’Hare and boarded my flight to Paris. With a 17.1-pound pack, I set off for three months of adventure on the Camino.

What is the Camino de Santiago?

I’m starting the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile walk across northern Spain ending in Santiago de Compostela. It’s early mornings, long days, bunk beds, and quiet villages. People walk it for many reasons: faith, reflection, challenge. But most finish changed, in ways big or small.
