Camino Francés

Day 35 - O Amenal to Santiago de Compostela

Started my last day at 6:30, walking in the dark crowds toward Santiago. The final stretch felt endless, but stepping into the cathedral plaza was surreal—I made it! Got my Compostela, sipped wine, toured the rooftop, and saw the incense lantern swing at pilgrims mass. A perfect ending.

Day 34 - Ribadiso to O Amenal

Woke at 6:30 and walked slowly, letting crowds pass so I could enjoy some solitude. Finished the day with sore knees but quiet roads. Tovin booked me a private room, which felt so special. Dried laundry in the sun, called him for an hour, then had a big steak dinner.

Day 33 - Ponte Campaña to Ribadiso

Woke at 6:30, stopping early for tortilla and café con leche. Walked with Kat, then met Liz and Santiago—likely our last time together before Santiago. The path grew crowded as Caminos merged. Reached my final albergue on the Francés, did laundry, called Tovin, then shared pilgrim dinner with Kat.

Day 32 - Gonzar to Ponte Campaña

Woke late, left in rain that stopped quickly. Big tortilla and café con leche for breakfast. Walked mostly alone, listening to music and daydreaming. Stopped for wine, then continued to Ponte Campaña. Relaxed, journaled, met Kat again, hammock time, pet a cat, and ended with a communal dinner.

Day 31 - O Mosterio to Gonzar

Early start to beat the Sarria crowds. Walked through farm towns smelling of cows, had Santiago cake, then a steep descent into Portomarín where I met Liz and Santiago. Pushed on solo to Gonzar, got a bed before rain. Quiet town, no Wi-Fi, odd dinner of bread, pasta salad, baby eels, and mussels.
